Iron Mountain Trail Work- Jefferson National Forest
This past Wednesday, SMT drove down to Damascus where they met up with David Witt, the brains behind the Iron Mountain 100k ride, to do some trail work in the Jefferson National Forest. We placed in some grade dips and water diversions on Chestnut Ridge Trail to help preserve the trail and stop the water runoff from washing away all the good dirt. We then cleared the trail of 7 downed-tree areas, so Chestnut Ridge Trail is now clear and ready to ROLL!! Saw Mill Trail had some nasty culverts that we checked out to fix before the race. Lastly, we went down Mock Hollow Trail, the final descent, and made sure that was ready. Things are shaping up for this year's Iron Mountain 100k ride, you don't want to miss it!! Check out the pictures from our trip:

Iron Mountain 100K
Wow, the Iron Mountain 100K in the Mount Rogers NRA outside of Damascus, VA was awesome! 88 riders came to "Trail Town" to challenge themselves to a long day on big Iron Mountain! The weather and trail conditions were prime, and Koerber, Fawley, and Lawrence were flying to finish top 3 in the men's race! Winfield, Wolfson, and Hamm rocked out for the women! Chambers came in as the top singlespeeder!

Iron Mountain 100K in the Mount Rogers National Recreation Area
The Iron Mountain 100K has some gems
Jerry's Creek Trail is lush and green
Tight singletrack with a steep exciting sidehill
The trail has a 10 x 6 ft. divot missing from the tread
A huge tree borrowed some soil for a while
We are going to harvest the soil off the roots
And return it to the tread so we make it though there again
A few rolling grade dips need to be refreshed
We have to keep the water flowing across the trail and not down it
The only place the water needs to be running
Is in the beautiful creek far down below
